You likely had to squash your thoughts and feelings each time you stepped onstage. You found yourself taking on others’ judgements – not out of true alignment, but from a desperate need for acceptance. In doing so, you’ve learned to become a performer for others, trying to be seen for the musician you really are.
The result is a career where you’ve been so focused on what others think about you that you’ve lost sight of who you actually are.
I can teach you the mental skills to help you overcome perfectionism, self-doubt, and performance anxiety, and fall back in love with being a musician
Prior to becoming a performance coach, I spent years working as a music teacher. As someone who is passionate about music teaching, I expected to work solely as an educator for the rest of my life.
But I had been blighted by performance anxiety throughout my musical education and it followed me into my work as a teacher. Not only that, I realised that my students were also suffering, either with anxiety or just lacking the mental tools to perform stress-free – and I didn’t know how to help them. And yet to my surprise (and mild rage), no one seemed to bat an eye at this growing problem.
In a world where performer’s emotional stress often goes unrecognised, my mission: to help you rebuild your trust in yourself so that you can perform confidently under pressure and love being a musician again.
I am not a jack-of-all-trades coach. Instead, my writing and work exist to help musicians everywhere recognize their worth, restore their trust in themselves and build a joyful, sustainable career.
